Core Textאֵת וָאֵת לָמָּה לִי? דָּרַשׁ נַחוּם אִישׁ גַּם זוֹ: אִלּוּ נֶאֱמַר שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ, הָיִיתִי אוֹמֵר שָׁמַיִם שְׁמוֹ שֶׁל הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא; עַכְשָׁו שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ — שָׁמַיִם שָׁמַיִם מַמָּשׁ, אָרֶץ אָרֶץ מַמָּשׁ.

Nachum Ish Gam Zu expounded: Had it said merely “shamayim va-aretz,” I might have said that “shamayim” is a name of the Holy One, blessed be He; now that it says “et hashamayim ve’et ha’aretz” — heaven means actual heaven, earth means actual earth.
