Core Text

English of Core Text: It was taught: Rabbi Eliezer says: “And a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground” — this teaches that that period was the season of the early rains, and rains fell and [plants] sprouted; and from here [we learn] that the world was created in Tishrei.
On the daf / in context: Part of the classic Nisan/Tishrei debate. Rabbi Eliezer sees the mist and watering as evidence of the Tishrei rainy season.
Type of Learning: R’ Eliezer (explicit) / Custom (seasonal proof for month of creation)
What Is Learned: The rising mist and watering indicate the Tishrei season, supporting creation in Tishrei.
