English of Core Text: Rabbi Shimon ben Menasya expounded: What is the meaning of “and the Lord built the side”? This teaches that the Holy One, blessed be He, braided Chavah’s hair and brought her to Adam, for in the coastal cities they call a braid “binyata.”
On the daf / in context: “Vayiven” is read as an act of beautification (braiding) before the presentation of the bride.
Type of Learning: Custom (braiding of Chavah)
What Is Learned: God Himself braided Chavah’s hair before presenting her to Adam; “vayiven” alludes to that act.
