וַתִּפָּקַ֙חְנָה֙ עֵינֵ֣י שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּ כִּ֥י עֵירֻמִּ֖ם הֵ֑ם וַֽיִּתְפְּרוּ֙ עֲלֵ֣ה תְאֵנָ֔ה וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם חֲגֹרֹֽת׃

Core Textתַּנְיָא, רַבִּי נְחֶמְיָה אוֹמֵר: אִילָן שֶׁאָכַל אָדָם הָרִאשׁוֹן שֶׁל תְּאֵנָה הָיְתָה, שֶׁבַּדָּבָר שֶׁקִּלְקְלוּ בּוֹ נִתְקְּנוּ, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר וַיִּתְפְּרוּ עֲלֵה תְאֵנָה.
English of Core Text: It was taught: Rabbi Nechemyah says: The tree from which Adam the first man ate was a fig tree, for with the very thing with which they sinned they were repaired, as it is said “and they sewed fig leaves.”
