Core Textאָמַר לֵיהּ אֵלִיָּהוּ לְרַב יְהוּדָה: אֲמַרִיתוּ אַמַּאי לֹא אָתֵי מָשִׁיחַ, וְהָא אִידָּנָא יוֹמָא דְּכִפּוּרֵי הוּא וְאִבְּעוּל כַּמָּה בְּתוּלָתִי בִּנְהַרְדְּעָא? אָמַר לֵיהּ: הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא מַאי אָמַר? אָמַר לֵיהּ: לַפֶּתַח חַטָּאת רֹבֵץ.
English of Core Text: Eliyahu said to Rav Yehudah: You say why the Messiah has not come — yet today is Yom Kippur and several virgins were violated in Nehardea? He said to him: What did the Holy One, blessed be He, say? He replied: “Sin crouches at the door.”
