וַ֠יְהִ֠י בְּאַחַ֨ת וְשֵׁשׁ־מֵא֜וֹת שָׁנָ֗ה בָּֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ חָֽרְב֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֣ל הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּ֤סַר נֹ֙חַ֙ אֶת־מִכְסֵ֣ה הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַיַּ֕רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה חָֽרְב֖וּ פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

In the six hundred and first year, in the first [month], on the first of the month, the waters began to dry from the earth; and when Noach removed the covering of the ark, he saw that the surface of the ground had dried.

בָּרִאשׁוֹן בְּאֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ — מִדְּאַכַּתִּי יוֹם אֶחָד הוּא דְּעַיֵּיל בַּחֹדֶשׁ וְקָא קָרֵי לֵיהּ חֹדֶשׁ, שְׁמַע מִינַּהּ: יוֹם אֶחָד בַּחֹדֶשׁ חָשׁוּב חֹדֶשׁ; וּמִדְּיוֹם אֶחָד בַּחֹדֶשׁ חָשׁוּב חֹדֶשׁ, שְׁלֹשִׁים יוֹם בַּשָּׁנָה חָשׁוּב שָׁנָה.

English: “In the first [month], on the first of the month” — Since it is only one day that has entered the month and Scripture already calls it “a month,” learn from this that one day in a month counts as a month; and since one day in a month counts as a month, thirty days in a year count as a year.
