Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “She had no child” — Rav Nachman said: Sarah our mother was an aylonit, as it is said “she had no child” — she did not even have a womb.

Type of Learning

Custom (diyuk from the doubled language of barrenness).

What Is Learned

The extra phrase indicates a structural absence (aylonit); her later childbirth was miraculous and not a source for ordinary medical conclusions.
