וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר אַבְרָם֙ בָּאָ֔רֶץ עַ֚ד מְק֣וֹם שְׁכֶ֔ם עַ֖ד אֵל֣וֹן מוֹרֶ֑ה וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖י אָ֥ז בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

Avram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, as far as Elon Moreh; the Canaanite was then in the land.

Core Text מוֹדִיעַ הַכָּתוּב כִּי הָיָה אַבְרָהָם עוֹבֵר בָּאָרֶץ מִמָּקוֹם לְמָקוֹם, וְאֵין אוֹמֵר אֵלָיו דָּבָר מִבְּנֵי הָאָרֶץ. וַהֲגַם שֶׁבַּעֲלֵי הָאָרֶץ שֶׁהֵם כְּנַעַן הָיוּ אָז בָּאָרֶץ… לֹא פָּצָה פִּיו וְצִפְצֵף.
English: Scripture informs us that Avraham was passing through the land from place to place, and none of the inhabitants said anything to him. Even though the owners of the land — the Canaanites — were then in the land where Avraham passed, not a mouth opened or chirped.
Context: Ohr HaChaim stresses the silent non-interference of the Canaanites as Avraham traverses the promised land for the first time.
