וַיַּ֩עַל֩ אַבְרָ֨ם מִמִּצְרַ֜יִם ה֠וּא וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֛וֹ וְל֥וֹט עִמּ֖וֹ הַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃

From Egypt, Avram went up into the Negev, with his wife and all that he possessed, together with Lot.

וַיֵּלֶךְ לְמַסָּעָיו — כְּשֶׁחָזַר מִמִּצְרַיִם הָלַךְ וְלָן בְּאוֹתָן הָאֻשְׁפִּיזִין שֶׁלָּן בָּהֶם בַּהֲלִיכָתוֹ לְמִצְרַיִם. לִמֶּדְךָ דֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ, שֶׁלֹּא יְשַׁנֶּה אָדָם מֵאֻשְׁפִּיזוֹ.

English: He went on his journeys — when he returned from Egypt he lodged in the same inns he had used on the way down. This teaches good manners: a person should not change his inn.

On the daf / in context: Although the exact phrase “on his journeys” is on 13:3, the return ascent of 13:1 is classically read together with it: Avraham retraces his steps, restoring the path of ascent after the Egypt episode.

What Is Learned: The return from Egypt is not only geographic; it models loyalty and consistency in the path of ascent back toward the land and the altar.
