Core Text

Core Text

English: He brought back all the possessions — not only Lot, but everyone who had been taken, teaching Avraham’s kindness that he did not abandon a single soul.

On the daf / in context: The verse stresses total restoration. Midrash and classical readers note that Avraham’s campaign ends in complete recovery of people and property, setting up the subsequent refusal of the king of Sodom’s offer.
Type of Learning: Custom (emphasis on “all”)
What Is Learned: Avraham’s victory is measured not by spoils kept but by captives returned in full — including those with no personal claim on him.
