וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑יו אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר הוֹצֵאתִ֙יךָ֙ מֵא֣וּר כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לָ֧תֶת לְךָ֛ אֶת־הָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּ֖את לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃

And He said to him: I am Hashem who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to inherit it.

Core Text

אוּר כַּשְׂדִּים — כִּבְשַׁן הָאֵשׁ שֶׁל כַּשְׂדִּים. הוֹצֵאתִיךָ — מִן הַכִּבְשָׁן, לָתֵת לְךָ אֶת הָאָרֶץ.

English: Ur of the Chaldeans — the fiery furnace of the Chaldeans. “I brought you out” — from the furnace, in order to give you this land.

On the daf / in context: The identification of Ur Kasdim with the furnace of the Nimrod trial is classical. God grounds the land promise in the prior deliverance from death, binding inheritance to the first great test.

Type of Learning: Custom (aggadic reading of Ur Kasdim)

What Is Learned: The land is promised by the same God who already pulled Avraham from the fire; the covenant of chapter 15 rests on that proven relationship.
