Core Text

Core Text

English: An angel of Hashem found her — teaching that the Holy One prepares the remedy before the blow, and that angels attend to the distress of the compassionate (and of those who suffer).

On the daf / in context: The first angelic appearance to Hagar is read as Divine concern for the oppressed maidservant; the location “on the road to Shur” already points toward Egypt, the land of her origin.
Type of Learning: Custom (aggadic reading of the angel’s appearance)
What Is Learned: Even in flight, Hagar is met by Heaven; the covenant story does not abandon the Egyptian servant who will become the mother of a great nation.
