Classic midrash (El Ro’i)

Core Text

אֵל רֳאִי — אֱלֹהֵי רֳאִיָּה, שֶׁרוֹאֶה בְּעֶלְבּוֹן הַנֶּעֱלָבִים. הִיא קָרְאָה שֵׁם לַמָּקוֹם עַל שֵׁם הָרְאִיָּה שֶׁנִּגְלָה לָהּ.

English: El Ro’i — God of seeing, who sees the humiliation of the oppressed. She named the place for the vision that was revealed to her.

On the daf / in context: Hagar is the first person in the Torah to give a name to God. The midrash emphasizes Divine attentiveness to the suffering of the lowly; the well Beer-lahai-ro’i memorializes that encounter.
