Core Text

Core Text

English: As an everlasting holding — a holding without interruption; and I will be their God — the covenant includes both the land and the bond with Hashem.

On the daf / in context: Within the brit milah chapter, 17:8 pairs everlasting land tenure with the ongoing relationship “I will be their God.” Classical readers treat the two clauses as one covenant package.
Type of Learning: Custom (pairing of land and relationship)
What Is Learned: The everlasting holding of Canaan is inseparable from the everlasting God-relationship sealed by circumcision in this same chapter.
