וַיִּקַּ֨ח אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בְּנ֗וֹ וְאֵ֨ת כׇּל־יְלִידֵ֤י בֵיתוֹ֙ וְאֵת֙ כׇּל־מִקְנַ֣ת כַּסְפּ֔וֹ… וַיָּ֜מָל אֶת־בְּשַׂ֣ר עָרְלָתָ֗ם בְּעֶ֙צֶם֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה…

Then Avraham took his son Yishmael, and all those born in his house… and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins on that very day…

בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה — בַּיּוֹם וְלֹא בַּלַּיְלָה, שֶׁלֹּא יִהְיוּ שׂוֹנְאָיו וְהַמַּלְאֲכִים אוֹמְרִים: אִלּוּ הָיָה לַיְלָה לֹא הָיָה עוֹשֶׂה. עָשָׂה מִיָּד בְּיֹם צַוּוּיו.

English: On that very day — by day and not by night, so that neither enemies nor angels could say: had it been night he would not have done it. He acted at once on the day of the command.

On the daf / in context: The phrase “on that very day” is midrashically stressed as public, immediate obedience: Avraham does not delay or hide the mitzvah of circumcision.

What Is Learned: Brit milah is performed in broad daylight, on the same day it is commanded, as a public acceptance of the covenant by Avraham and his entire household.
