Parashas Shemos · Passuk 1:6
And Yosef died, and all his brothers, and that entire generation.
Torah Temimah points to R’ Chama bar Chanina — Sotah 11a (verified).
English: R’ Chama bar Chanina said: Why did Yosef die before his brothers? Because he conducted himself with authority (rabbanus).
Custom — diyuk from the sequence of the verse (Yosef named first in the death notice).
Chazal teach that Yosef’s assumption of authority shortened his life relative to his brothers. The verse’s order is taken as deliberate, not merely chronological.
