English: “And he shall slaughter” – whereas regarding the receiving of the blood the verse says “and the sons of Aharon the kohanim shall bring”; from the receiving of the blood onward it is a priestly duty. This teaches that the slaughter itself is valid when performed by a non-kohen.
Distinction of the stages of the sacrificial service — slaughter is valid when performed by a non-kohen; from the receiving of the blood onward the service is restricted to kohanim.
Slaughter may be performed by any qualified Israelite, while the subsequent blood service belongs exclusively to the kohanim. This division of labor highlights both the accessibility of certain mitzvos and the special role of the priesthood.
