English: “And he shall take a fistful from there” — from the place where the feet of the layman stand.
Diyuk on mi-sham — “from there” points back to the place already occupied by the non-kohen who brought the offering.
Kemitzah is valid anywhere in the azarah, including the eleven amos of the Israelites’ standing area, not only next to the altar.
