Core Text

אש תמיד תוקד על המזבח לא תכבה — מצוה שתהא האש דולקת תמיד, ואפילו בשבת ואפילו בטומאה.

“A continuous fire shall burn upon the altar; it shall not go out” — it is a mitzvah that the fire burn continuously, even on Shabbat and even in a state of impurity.

On the daf / in context
The short verse restates and intensifies the continuous-fire requirement already derived from the preceding verses. The classical sources emphasize that the fire is never extinguished, neither for Shabbat nor because of tumah.
Type of Learning

Custom — reinforcement of the perpetual-fire commandment.

What Is Learned

The altar fire must burn without interruption at all times.
