Torah Temimah points to the baraisa that a father is obligated to marry off his son so that he may later fulfill “vehodatem le-vanekha u-livnei vanecha” (Kiddushin 29a–30a).
English: It was taught: A father is obligated regarding his son… to marry him off, as it is written “and make them known to your children and to your children’s children.” When do you merit children and children’s children? When you marry off your sons while they are young.
On the daf / in context: The obligation to arrange a son’s marriage is linked to the long-term transmission of Torah: only by ensuring the next generation is established can the grandfather fulfill the full scope of “vehodatem.”
