Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: One might have thought “your (masc.) house” excludes a woman’s house and the house of partners? The verse (in Eikev) says “so that your days may be multiplied” — do these not need life and those not need life?

On the daf / in context: The promise of long life attached to the mitzvah is taken to include every person who needs life, so the obligation extends to a woman’s house and to joint ownership.

Type of Learning

Diyuk of the reward clause to include women and partners in the obligation.

What Is Learned

A woman’s house and a house owned by partners are also obligated in mezuzah; the promise of long life applies to all.
