English: It was taught: R’ Meir would say: A person is obligated to recite one hundred blessings every day, as it is said, “And now, Israel, what (mah) does Hashem your God ask of you?” Read mah as me’ah (one hundred). The verse has one hundred letters less one; Scripture often rounds to a full ten when the count is one short (as with “seventy” souls or “fifty” days of the omer). R’ Meir uses that pattern as an asmakhta for the daily hundred berachot.
