ועיין בר"ן לנדרים ז' ב' דמדכתיב בפסוק זה בדתן ואבירם בקרב כל ישראל מוכח שלא היו מצורעים משום דאל"ה היו משתלחים חוץ למחנה, ומה שנוגע לענין זה בארנו בפ' שמות בפ' כי מתו כל האנשים המבקשים את נפשך, יעו"ש.
English: What is “the substance that was at their feet”? R’ Elazar said: This is a person’s money, which sets him on his feet. This explains Kohelet — “there is wealth kept for its owner to his harm” — the wealth of Korach: through great wealth he grew arrogant and was removed from the world. Midrashim on “Korach took” read it as taking with money — bribing men to oppose Moshe — so his wealth was his downfall.
