English: “to give to us” — excluding women and slaves. Might one include converts and freed slaves? Scripture says “to us” — to us who are distinctive, not to others. Another interpretation: “to give to us” — in order that You give to us; this teaches that if Israel is not in the Land the bikkurim do not come.
In Sifrei: The midrash limits the recipients of the land-gift language and then derives a further condition for the mitzvah of bikkurim itself from the same phrase.
Type of Learning
Custom (phrase-by-phrase expansion of the declaration / distribution rule).
What Is Learned
The midrash extracts concrete legal and historical referents from each phrase of the verse, turning the brief biblical language into a detailed map of the mitzvah’s requirements and the experience it recalls.
