English: “Not with you alone” — know that I am not adjuring you according to your own intent, but according to the intent of the Omnipresent and according to my intent.

Type of Learning

Custom (A foundational principle of shevuos: the binding force of the oath is determined by the intent of the one who imposes it (Hashem and Moshe), not by the private mental reservation of the one who accepts it.)

What Is Learned

An oath taken under the authority of Heaven cannot be limited by the private thoughts or conditions of the people. The covenant binds according to the intent of Hashem and of Moshe. This principle protects the permanence of the brit against later claims of mental reservation.
