English of Core Text: Bar Kappara taught: A virgin is married on Wednesday and has relations on Thursday, since a blessing was said on that day for the fish, as it is said “And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply.”
On the daf / in context: The preferred day for a virgin’s wedding night is tied to the day on which the fish received the blessing of fertility.
Type of Learning: Custom (wedding-day association with creation blessing)
What Is Learned: Thursday is preferred for the consummation of a virgin’s marriage because the fish were blessed with fertility on the fifth day.
