English of Core Text: Rabbi Yirmeyah ben Elazar said: All those years that Adam the first man was in a state of ban (niddui) he begot spirits and demons and lilin, as it is said “And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years and begot in his likeness, after his image” — implying that until then he did not beget after his image.
On the daf / in context: The delayed “in his likeness” implies that the intervening years produced non-human offspring while Adam was under divine displeasure.
Type of Learning: Custom (offspring during the years of ban)
What Is Learned: During the 130 years of Adam’s estrangement he fathered spirits and demons; only afterward did he beget in his own image (Sheis).
