וַתִּפְתַּח֙ וַתִּרְאֵ֣הוּ אֶת־הַיֶּ֔לֶד וְהִנֵּה־נַ֖עַר בֹּכֶ֑ה וַתַּחְמֹ֣ל עָלָ֔יו וַתֹּ֕אמֶר מִיַּלְדֵ֥י הָֽעִבְרִ֖ים זֶֽה׃

When she opened it, she saw that it was a child, a boy crying. She took pity on it and said, “This must be a Hebrew child.”

Torah Temimah points to R’ Yosei bar Chanina — Sotah 12b (verified).

Core Text

ותראהו את הילד — ותרא מבעי ליה. א״ר יוסי בר חנינא: שראתה שכינה עמו.

English: “And she saw him, the child” — it should have said simply “and she saw.” R’ Yosei bar Chanina said: She saw the Shechinah with him.

On the daf / in context: The extra particle “es” is taken to indicate that Bas Pharaoh perceived the Divine Presence accompanying the infant.

Custom

Chazal teach that Bas Pharaoh perceived the Shechinah accompanying Moshe in the ark.
