Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

נער בוכה — קרי ליה ילד וקרי ליה נער, מלמד שעשתה לו אמו חופת נערים בתיבה.

English: “A youth crying” — it calls him a child and it calls him a youth; this teaches that his mother made for him a bridal canopy of youths in the ark.

On the daf / in context: The dual designation is midrashically resolved as a symbolic “wedding canopy” prepared by Yocheved in case she would not live to see his actual marriage.
