Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Temurah 28b / Zevachim 34a
מִן הַבְּהֵמָה — לְהוֹצִיא רוֹבֵעַ וְנִרְבָּע;
מִן הַבָּקָר — לְהוֹצִיא אֶת הַנֶּעֱבָד;
מִן הַצֹּאן — לְהוֹצִיא אֶת הַמֻּקְצֶה;
וּמִן הַצֹּאן — לְהוֹצִיא אֶת הַנּוֹגֵחַ.

מִן הַבָּקָר וּמִן הַצֹּאן — וְלֹא חַיָּה.

English: “From the animal” — to exclude one that had relations with a person or upon which a person had relations. “From the cattle” — to exclude one that was worshipped. “From the flock” — to exclude one that was set aside [for idolatry]. “And from the flock” — to exclude one that gored. “From the cattle and from the flock” — and not a wild animal (chayah).

Type of Learning

R’ Eliezer #2 (מיעוט) — multiple exclusions from the repeated restrictive particle min and from the specification of cattle and flock rather than the broader category of behemah.

What Is Learned

Animals disqualified by forbidden use, worship, designation for idolatry, or goring may not be brought. Undomesticated animals (chayah) are likewise excluded; only domestic cattle and flock are eligible for these offerings.
