English: Our Rabbis taught: “He shall bring it” — this teaches that we compel him. Might this mean against his will? The verse says “for his acceptance / of his free will.” How so? We compel him until he says, “I am willing.”
Custom (resolution of two phrases in one passuk) — “he shall bring it” vs. “of his free will” read together: compulsion that produces genuine consent. Related in spirit to Yishmael #13 (two writings that appear to conflict) but applied within a single verse.
One who is obligated to bring an offering may be compelled to fulfill it, but the compulsion continues only until he expresses willingness. The offering must ultimately be brought with his consent.
