Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Bava Kamma 66b
קָרְבָּנוֹ — קָרְבָּנוֹ וְלֹא הַגָּזוּל.

English: “His offering” — his offering, and not a stolen one.

Type of Learning

R’ Eliezer #2 (מיעוט) — exclusion from the possessive “his offering”: the animal must belong to the one who brings it; a stolen animal is disqualified.

What Is Learned

An offering must be the bringer’s own property. A stolen animal is invalid for the altar (with further discussion on the daf regarding acquisition after yeush).
