Core Text

English: “And He called unto Moshe and [then] spoke” — Why does the verse place calling before speaking? The Torah teaches derech eretz: a person should not say anything to his fellow unless he first calls him.

Type of Learning

Teaching from the order of the words (sequence rules related to the 32 of R’ Eliezer) — the Torah places the calling before the speaking to teach derech eretz: one must not address another without first calling him.

What Is Learned

Derech eretz in communication: before beginning to speak to someone, first call them or obtain their attention.
