English: How does one lean? The animal stands in the north facing west; the one who leans stands in the east facing west and places both hands between the two horns of the animal, with nothing intervening.
Diyuk teaching the precise physical manner of the mitzvah of semichah — the orientation of the animal and the offerer, and the placement of the hands, are fixed by the derasha.
The act of leaning the hands upon the head of the offering is performed with care and intention, symbolizing the transfer of the person’s identification with the korban and the sincere desire for atonement.
