Core Text

English: “And he shall slaughter it” [repeated across the chapter] — excluding chullin, that they not be slaughtered in the courtyard.

On the daf / in context: Abaye: three slaughter phrases exclude ordinary animals from the Temple court. In the wilderness all meat came via shelamim; once chullin is permitted in the land, one might still think it must be shechted in the azarah — the extra phrases block that.

Type of Learning

R’ Eliezer #2 (מיעוט) — repeated slaughter language excludes chullin from the azarah.

What Is Learned

Ordinary (non-sacrificial) animals may not be slaughtered in the Temple courtyard.
