EXTRA 2 — Vayikra 4:13–21 · Sifra

Sifra on the community bull.

Core Text

English: “He shall do to the bull as he did to the chatas bull” — like the anointed kohen’s bull: sprinklings before the paroches and placement on the inner altar.

In Sifra: The community’s inadvertent chatas follows the identical inner blood procedure as the anointed kohen’s bull; both are “inner” chata’os whose flesh is burned outside the camp.

Type of Learning

R’ Yishmael #2 (גזירה שוה / hekesh) via “as he did.”

What Is Learned

Communal chatas and the anointed’s chatas share the same inner sanctuary blood service and outer burning of the carcass.
