Core Text
אשר נשיא יחטא

English: When a nasi (chieftain) sins.

Type of Learning

Special formula for the leader — “asher” rather than “im,” read as fortunate is the generation whose nasi seeks atonement.

What Is Learned

The nasi who sins be-shogeg brings his own chatat. Chazal note the unusual wording “asher nasi yecheta” as praise for a generation whose leader admits fault and brings a korban.
