You shall consign the images of their gods to the fire; you shall not covet the silver and gold on them and keep it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared thereby; for that is abhorrent to the ETERNAL your God.
כסף וזהב עליהם. העובדי כוכבים העובדים את ההרים ואת הגבעות הן מותרין ומה שעליהם אסורין, שנאמר לא תחמוד כסף וזהב עליהם ולקחת לך גוף ההרים מותר כגון לזרוע שם ולחצוב משם אבנים משום דכל מחובר הוי קרקע עולם ואין בהם כח לאסרן, וכפי שיתבאר אי"ה בר"פ ראה (י"ב ב'), אלא רק מה שעליהם אסור כגון אם צפום זהב וכסף ועיין ביו"ד סי' קמ"ה.
English: “Silver and gold on them” — non-Jews who worship mountains and hills: the mountains themselves are permitted, and what is upon them is forbidden, as it is said, “You shall not covet the silver and gold on them and take it for yourself.” The mountain as such (to sow, to quarry) remains ordinary ground; only the plating or ornaments upon it are forbidden.
