ורם לבבך ושכחת. א"ר יוחנן, כל אדם שיש בו גסות הרוח כאלו כפר בעיקר, שנאמר ורם לבבך ושכחת את ה' הכונה כאלו כפר בעיקר משום דכיון דאפשר לבא לידי כפירה כמבואר בדרשה הקודמת והוא אינו זהיר שלא לבא לידי זה והיינו שיש בו גסות הרוח ש"מ דלא איכפת ליה שמא יבא לידי כך וא"כ ממילא חשיב כאלו כפר בעיקר, ועיין מש"כ בסוף פרשה הקודמת פ' כ"ו בדרשה ולא תביא תועבה.
English: R’ Yochanan said: Anyone who has arrogance of spirit is as if he denied the fundamental principle, as it is said, “and your heart grows haughty and you forget Hashem.” Because haughtiness can lead to forgetting God, one who is not careful about it is treated as if he already denied the Root.
