הרף ממני. כשחטאו ישראל בעגל תשש כחו של משה ולא היה בו כח לדבר לפני הקב"ה, וכיון שאמר הקב"ה הרף ממני ואשמידם, אמר משה, דבר זה תלוי בי, מיד עמד ונתחזק בתפלה ובקש רחמים פירש"י שהראה לו הקב"ה למשה שיש כח בידו [של משה] למחול ע"י תפלה, עכ"ל. והלשון למחול אינו מבואר כ"כ, שהרי המחילה היא מצד הקב"ה ומצד משה הוי רק הגרם והסבוב לזה, ואולי ט"ס בפירש"י וצ"ל שיש בידו כח למחות וכן איתא ברש"י בע"י.
English: “Leave Me alone” — When Israel sinned with the calf, Moshe’s strength failed and he had no power to speak before the Holy One. Once God said “Leave Me alone and I will destroy them,” Moshe said: This matter depends on me. Immediately he stood firm in prayer and sought mercy. Rashi: God showed Moshe that he had the power [to protest and] effect forgiveness through prayer.
