ואתפש בשני הלחת. א"ר יוחנן בשם ר' יוסי בר אביי, הלוחות היו מבקשין לפרוח והיה משה תופשן, דכתיב ואתפוש בשני הלחות כפי הנראה לא ס"ל כר' יוחנן בדרשה הקודמת דתכלית התפישה בשתי ידיו היתה כדי להשליכן בכח לשברם כמש"כ באות הקודם, ולכן מפרש צורך התפישה דמשמע שתפש בכח לכונה אחרת כדמפרש מפני שהיו מבקשין לפרוח, ועיין בתנחומא כאן.
English: R’ Yochanan in the name of R’ Yose bar Abbaye: The tablets sought to fly away, and Moshe held them fast, as it is written “I seized the two tablets.” This reading takes the forceful grasp as restraining the tablets from departing, not (only) as preparing a powerful throw.
