I prayed to GOD and said, “O my Sovereign GOD, do not annihilate Your very own people, whom You redeemed in Your majesty and whom You freed from Egypt with a mighty hand.
English: R’ Chanina said: Anyone who lengthens his prayer — his prayer does not return empty. Whence? From Moshe, as it is said “I prayed to Hashem…,” and afterward “Hashem listened to me also that time.” The word “also” implies that the listening was an act of grace; that grace came through the length of the prayer.
On the daf / in context: Berakhot 32b.
Type of Learning
Custom (lengthening prayer)
What Is Learned
Extended tefillah after the model of Moshe is a reason for being answered; “also that time” marks undeserved acceptance tied to that length.
