ועשית לך ארון. רבי יוחנן רמי, כתיב ועשית לך ארון וכתיב (פ' תרומה) ועשו ארון, מכאן לתלמיד חכם שבני עירו מצווין לעשות מלאכתו ור"ל שבאמת בעיקר המצוה נצטוה משה ועשו כל ישראל עבורו, ואע"פ שרק בצלאל ואהליאב ועוד חכמים עשו אך הם קבלו שכרם מקופת כסף קדשי בדק הבית, כמו שמבואר במס' תמורה ל"א ב', שכל ישראל השתתפו בה והוי כמו הם עצמם עשו, ועוד כתבנו מענין דרשה זו בפ' תרומה בפסוק הנזכר, יעו"ש וצרף לכאן.
English: R’ Yochanan posed a contradiction: “You shall make for yourself an ark” versus “They shall make an ark.” From here: a Torah scholar — the people of his city are obligated to do his work for him. The commandment was on all Israel on Moshe’s behalf; those who actually built (Betzalel and others) were paid from the communal sacred funds, so it is as if all Israel built.
