From Beeroth-bene-jaakanaBeeroth-bene-jaakan Lit. “wells of Bene-jaakan”; cf. Num. 33.31–32. the Israelites marched to Moserah. Aharon died there and was buried there; and his son Eleazar became priest in his stead.
English: R’ Yudan b. R’ Shalom said: Why did the Torah juxtapose Aharon’s death to the breaking of the tablets? To teach that the death of the righteous is as hard before the Holy One as the breaking of the tablets. Just as the broken tablets meant a cessation of Torah, so the death of a Torah scholar; as in the episode of Yannai and the killing of the Sages — “What will become of the Torah?”
On the daf / in context: Yerushalmi Yoma 1:1.
