ערלת לבבכם. דרש רב עוירא ואיתימא ר' יהושע בן לוי, משה קראו ליצה"ר ערל, שנאמר ומלתם את ערלת לבבכם כונת קריאת שם זה הוא להיות היצה"ר אדוק ודבק באדם בלי הפרש דק וכמו הערלה הדבוקה בבשר ומפני ששניהם מאוסים הם לכן תפס לו דמיון זה.
English: Rav Avira expounded, or some say R’ Yehoshua ben Levi: Moshe called the evil inclination “orlah,” as it is said, “You shall circumcise the orlah of your heart.” The yetzer is stuck to the person without a fine separation, like the foreskin stuck to the flesh; both are treated as repulsive, hence the comparison.
