אלהי האלהים וגו'. א"ר יוחנן, כל מקום שאתה מוצא גדולתו של הקב"ה שם אתה מוצא ענותנותו, כי ה' אלהיכם הוא אלהי האלהים וגו' וכתיב בתריה (פ' י"ח) עושה משפט יתום ואלמנה ואוהב גר וגו' ר"ל שהם נדכאים ושפלי רוח ועצובים, ומשתתף כביכול בצערם לעשות להם משפט וצדקה ולנחמם מיגונם. ונראה ראיה לפי' זה ע"פ מ"ש בגמרא בסמוך דבר זה שנוי בנביאים כי כה אמר רם ונשא וכתיב בתריה ואת דכא ושפל רוח וגו', הרי דבשפלות הרוח איירי, וע"ע מש"כ דבר נאות באגדה זו בפ' ויחי בפסוק האלהים הרועה אותי.
English: R’ Yochanan said: Wherever you find the greatness of the Holy One, there you find His humility. “For Hashem your God — He is the God of gods…” and next to it “He executes justice for orphan and widow and loves the stranger.” He joins, as it were, in the pain of the lowly. The same pattern appears in the Prophets: “Thus said the High and Exalted” beside “with the crushed and lowly of spirit.”
