Parashas Eikev · Passuk 11:14
IeI That is, GOD; Samaritan reads in the 3rd person. will grant the rain for your land in season, the early rain and the late. You shall gather in your new grain and wine and oil—
Torah Temimah points to Taanit 6a.
TT lemma: יורה ומלקוש (unit 4 of 10).
English: Our Rabbis taught: Might malkosh mean rain that topples houses, breaks trees, and brings up locusts? Scripture says yoreh: just as yoreh is for blessing, so malkosh is for blessing. And yoreh itself? From Yoel: “He has given you the early rain in righteousness, and He makes the rain come down for you — early rain and late rain in the first [month].”
Custom (malkosh as blessing)
The late rain, like the early, is fixed as a blessing; Yoel confirms both as righteous gifts.
