Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “Fruit” — fruit yes, liquids no. [By parallel:] tevel, new produce, hekdesh, shevi’is, and kilayim — the liquids that issue from them have the same status as they do.

On the daf: The word “fruit” restricts the obligation to solid produce. Juice pressed from the seven species is not brought as bikkurim (with the classic exceptions of olive oil and wine in their own halachic tracks).

Type of Learning

R’ Eliezer #2 (מיעוט) — restriction from the limiting term “fruit.”

What Is Learned

Bikkurim must be brought as whole fruit, not as extracted liquids.
