Core Text

English: “And He brought us to this place” — this is the Beis HaMikdash. “And He gave us this land” — this is the Land of Israel. “A land flowing with milk and honey” — to declare the praise of the Land of Israel.

In Sifrei: Once the Land is mentioned separately, “this place” is identified with the Temple. The declaration credits Hashem both with the gift of the Land and with bringing Israel to the site of the Mikdash.

Type of Learning

Custom (diyuk distinguishing “this place” from “this land”).

What Is Learned

“This place” in the declaration refers to the Beis HaMikdash; the Land is mentioned in its own clause.
