Type of Learning

Custom (A restriction learned from the requirement of joy — the declaration is said only during the season of gathering and rejoicing.)

What Is Learned

Chazal teach that the mikra bikkurim is tied to the joyful harvest period. After Sukkos the fruit may still be brought until Chanukah, but the declaration is omitted because the season of simchah has passed.
